How does Aggressive Strategy work when there is more than one figure on the side with the Aggressive Strategy SA?
Any number of your damage dice may be rerolled. This reroll may only be made once per instance of the SA. You activate Aggressive Strategy after the initial damage roll is made. If you have multiple figures with the Aggressive Strategy SA, then the ability may be used to get multiple re-rolls by activating additional SAs as required.
So can I reroll again using another figure's Aggressive Strategy?
Yes. Aggressive Strategy is triggered after making any Damage roll.
8.24 Aggressive Strategy: You may re-roll any number of your damage dice in this warrior's combat. Activate after you make your damage roll for this model's combat.
Other SAs may still be triggered such as Armor and Assassin and Bodyguard, since they are triggered by the damage dice not the damage roll. In Bodyguards case it is Before the Dice are assigned.
The Assassin SA states you can assign any converted critical hits to a figure in its kill zone, but can Assassin be used to apply multiple converted critical hits?
Don't look at it as ASSASSIN doing the converting. Critical hits are converted as normal, and remember die rolls belong to the chain, not any particular figure.
What assassin does is make any converted hits do 2 wounds IF those converted damage dice are assigned to an enemy in the assassin's kill zone.
Evil figure with Dread is adjacent to a Good figure with SE and some other power. The Good player uses X power". The Evil player activates Dread. The Good player responds activating a SE to copy Dread. What happens? Can the Good player respond like that?
The good player must announce what Special Ability it is activating. The Special abilities resolve in the following order: Good activates whatever Power. Evil activates Dread, which activates BEFORE Good's ability, (whenever an enemy adjacent to this model is about to activate an ability or spend action points.) Good reacts by using Steal Essence, which in copying Dread inserts itself BEFORE Evil's Dread triggers (dizzy yet?)
Could you leave an engaged warriors kill zone (thus allowing the enemy a free attack), sneak around to the same enemy’s flank (assuming you survived the free attack), and use Fast Strike on him?
If you begin in an enemy Kill Zone and move you invite a Free Attack, but may activate Fast Strike after moving at least 1 hex. Please note that you do not get the Flanking Bonus when using Fast Strike.
Could you do the same thing and move from one kill zone hex to another hex in the same enemy’s kill zone and still use Fast Strike on him?
Yes this is legal as well.
It says that you may steal activated abilities, what about ones that aren’t activated yet?
There is a bit of confusion here. “Activated abilities” does not mean “abilities that have been activated” An activated ability is defined in the rulebook under the following rule: 8.082 Activated abilities are abilities that tell you when they can be activated by using a phrase similar to “activate when…”
Other abilities (like The One Ring) are non-activated.
Can Frodo put the Ring on when he either has an enemy in his kill zone or is in an enemy kill zone?
Yes he may, but only during the action phase. If Frodo’s side is the attacker and moves first he may not do so in reaction to the Defender’s movement.
OK, I think I see a conflict: 9.07 says that the Ringwraiths must disengage and move toward Frodo, but 9.09 says that they may still participate in any combats they are in.
There are several ways this can happen. A moving Ringwraith may still end its movement closer to Frodo, but enter a Kill Zone while doing so, also if the only route to Frodo is blocked or is in an enemy Kill zone, this may occur. In addition if the Ringwraith’s player is the attacker, the defenders action may result in the Ringwraith being in combat.
My Starter set has a blank base for Frodo which has 5 wounds, but the Frodo figure has a base with 4 wounds. Does Frodo get better when he puts on the Ring?
When you put the ring on you match the slider on the blank base to match what the sliders were on the Frodo fig base. The blank base merely has more lives to accommodate a different version of Frodo.
What is redemption?
Redemption is our way of saying thank you to our players by allowing them to redeem their credits for promotional foil cards and figures.
How do I get credits?
There are a number of ways to earn credits for redemption. Each booster pack for our CCGs comes with one card that players can turn in for credits. In WarCry they are called Gold cards and in Horus Heresy you’ll find Imperial Credit cards. They are inserted in random denominations of 10, 20, 50 and 100. Plus, once in a while at a tournament or other special events you may find a 500 Gold piece or 250 Imperial Credit card. You can also report home games and play in tournaments to earn more points!
Are there other ways to get credits besides collecting Gold and Imperial Credits?
Of course! You can get credits for just playing the game. You can enter the results of your home games for credits yourself. When you participate in store games and tournaments the organizer will report the results and you’ll receive credits for that as well. Another quick way to earn credits is to answer the polls on the website.
I have some Gold cards here, but I want to redeem for a Lord of the Ring TMG figure. Can I use my gold for this?
Definitely. All of our credits are global, which means that no matter how you get the points they can be used to redeem for any of our games. When you send us Gold cards or Imperial Credits they are added to your account as credits, so it is all the same stuff.
Okay, I have enough credits and now I want to redeem for some cool stuff! What do I do next?
Just check out the redemption page and print out the redemption form for the language that you’d like to redeem in. The redemption form will have the addresses that you’ll need to mail your order to depending on which country you are living in. For example, if you’re redeeming for cards in English you’ll print out the form and have the option to send your order to the U.S., U.K. or Australia. Make sure to check the address on the form and make sure it is complete before you send it. Otherwise your stuff may never reach you.
I see that there is also a shipping and handling charge. How can I pay that?
The best way to pay is by check or money order. However, we will accept credit cards (Visa and Mastercard only) if those don’t work for you. You’ll need to include your card number, the expiration date and type of card. While we accept cash, we don’t recommend sending it through the mail. If you do send cash, you’ll do so at your own risk.
I sent in my order last week, why haven’t I received it yet?
We can get very busy and get a lot of redemption, so our policy is that you’ll get your redemption order within 4-6 weeks. You will know that we received it by checking your account. We deduct the points from your account shortly after receiving it, so you’ll notice the change and know that we got your order.
I received my order correctly, but I checked my treasury and the gold I sent in has not been added to my account. What happened?
We separate everything as we get it, so we probably made a mistake and forgot to add your gold to your account. This is our fault, but if you write how much gold you’re enclosing on your form it will make sure that this doesn’t happen.
Okay, it’s been over 6 weeks and I still haven’t received my order. What’s going on?
There are a couple of possibilities. If you paid by credit card it is possible that your card was declined. We try to email you if this happens, but if you have a junk mail filter it isn’t uncommon that the email won’t reach you. If this isn’t the problem and you haven’t seen any change in your account then it is possible that we never received your order. Email us at support@sabertoothgames.com and we’ll check out the situation.
I received my order today. The problem is, all I received was a torn envelope! What in the world happened?
We send out a lot of mail and sometimes the post office decides it’s going to show us that they don’t like us adding to their workload by shredding an envelope (and spilling it’s contents who knows where). If you are the unfortunate recipient of such an order just email support@sabertoothgames.com and we’ll get it straightened out. : )
I want to send an order for Horus Heresy, WarCry and/or The Lord of the Ring TMG. Is it okay to send them together?
Yes. Send away.
I have some LOTR TMG participation figure slips to send in. Can I send those with my redemption order to save on the shipping cost?
Yes and no. It’s great if you’d like to send it all together so that it costs less for you to send to us. For some people overseas this can make a real difference. However, the shipping and handling charge is not reduced. For example if you’re redeeming for 3 Ugluks and 4 participation figures the shipping charge will be $20 ($4 for your 3 redemption figures + $16 for 4 participation figures).
I am sending in all of my participation figure slips together. Why do I still have to pay $4 per figure? Why doesn’t it cost the same as the redemption figures?
Redemption is our way of thanking our players for supporting our games. We do that by offering special cards and figures as well as giving players a break on the shipping and handling charge. Participation figures are a different matter and in order to adequately cover the shipping costs for these figures we need to charge $4 for each figure. Please understand that we are not making money on these figures. Whatever money we have left after sending the participation figures goes into our prize support program and enables us to keep sending tournament kits to venues for free.
I know Heroes are on dark green bases, but what about Villains?
There is a common misconception about this. In fact there are Evil Heroes as well as Good Heroes on dark green bases. Light green bases are for minions of both Good and Evil persuasion.
What about Henchmen? The rule book mentions them.
The word didn’t get changed before the rulebook got printed. It should read minion.
Are Promo figures legal for tournament use?
Yes. In fact you get several Promo Figures in the Starter Set.
The rules say that there cannot be more than 1 of any unique figure in a force. Does this stop me from using, say, Aragorn if my opponent is using him?
Not at all. The uniqueness restriction is per side. Both of you may play Aragorn.
Engaged figures are those that have an enemy figure in their kill zone, what about their targets?
The targets are not engaged unless they too have an enemy in their kill zone.
In the rules when it says +1 attack or +1 damage, Does this mean (Die roll) +1 or does this mean you get to use another Die?
It gives another die. Please note that the rules say "+1 attack", not "+1 to attack" a subtle difference that changes the interpretation.
When Shooting may I combine several Archer’s dice by forming a chain?
No each Archer will resolve his shots separately. It is actually more advantageous, as extraneous hits will not have been committed to a target. If the first Archer, or the second, deals enough damage to eliminate the target, the next archer is free to target someone else.
Are Glancing Blows and Critical Hits converted differently in the Shooting Roll as opposed to the Combat Roll?
Yes it is handled differently. An Archer may convert as many as he can afford. It compensates for the fact that shooting is done singly, while combat is done in a batch.
Can my archer convert as many Glancing Blows or Critical Hits as he has Activation Points to do so ... or is he limited to only one conversion of a Glancing Blow and only one conversion of a Critical Hit per Shooting Phase?
An Archer may convert as many as he can afford. It compensates for the fact that shooting is done singly, while combat is done in a batch.
I'm Confused! I need the latest Game Errata and Clarifications!
You can find the latest Game Q&A in the following places: The Q&A Forum
and the Tournament Rulebook in the Downloads section
. Please check there for the latest information!
Will I need paper, measuring tape or calculators?
Since all of a warriors stats are printed right on its base, paper records during a game are unnecessary. The hex map eliminates the need for measuring tape, and calculators might be useful when you are building your army, but not during gameplay.
Will there be tournaments?
Yes!! We have an extensive tournament support program in the works. Tournament organizers will have exclusive figures sent to them to hand out as prizes.
Can my good army fight another good army?
Most of the stories of Middle Earth involve the war between good and evil, and sometimes evil vs. evil. Since the TMG must stand up to tournament play, there are no rules preventing your good army from fighting another good army. This prevents tournament players from having to build 2 armies – 1 good and 1 evil.
Can I have 3 Aragorns in my army?
No. Each hero has a “unique number.” For Aragorn, it’s 1. Every version of Aragorn has the unique number 1. When you build your army, you cannot have multiple warriors with the same unique number.
Can Aragorn fight alongside Saruman?
No. There are two sides to choose from: Good and evil. When you build your army, you must choose a side. All of your warriors must be from the chosen side.
Doesn’t more dice mean more randomness?
Actually, no. Due to something called a “bell curve,” the more dice you roll, the more average your result. For instance, if you were to roll a single 12-sided die, you have an equal chance of getting any number between 1 and 12. Roll 2 six-siders, adding the dice together, and you could get any number between 2 and 12, but you stand a much greater chance of rolling a 6, 7 or 8 than any other number. Being able to turn 1’s into 6’s with action points further reduces randomness.
Does it use lots of dice?
The game uses standard 6-sided dice, and sometimes you can end up rolling a handful at a time. Rolling dice is fun!
What are the sliders for?
Each model has 2 sliders on its base. One tracks that warrior’s wounds. The other tracks that warrior’s action points, which can be spent to activate special abilities or to change 1’s into 6’s. Finally, a game where 1’s are good!
Is it played on a map?
The game uses a map with hexes on it for movement. The hexes speed up game play, while eliminating confusion over line-of-sight and movement. It also means you will never play on a blank table top!
1000 points? How many models is that?
A standard 1000 point army consists of 12-20 figures. How many is up to you.
How long do the games last?
A typical game with 1000 points of warriors on each side lasts about 30-45 minutes.

Are they metal?
They are made out of a soft form of plastic, which makes them very hard to break, and also makes them safer for the youngin’s.
Which movies does the set encompass?
The base set will contain figures representing characters in all three movies! Planned expansion packs will spotlight each individual movie down the road.
Why does the slider color mean?
They tell you which version of that model you have. Each hero has 2 versions in the base set, while each minion has 3 versions. These version have different abilities and points costs, but use the same sculpt and paint job. The slider colors are used to give players a quick way to determine versions on the battlefield.
White Slider – Starter Exclusive
Orange Slider – Level 1 figure
Red Slider – Level 2 figure
Purple Slider – Level 3 figure
Blue Slider – Level 4 figure
What are the models like?
They are 40mm, so they stand taller than the average miniature. They are all pre-painted and assembled, so all you have to do to play is pull them out of the box!
Will there be exclusive promotional figures?
Yes. We have many of them planned for our tournament system to be given out as prizes. Others will be used for specific events and promotions.
Will there be “good” boosters and “evil” boosters?
Each booster contains a random assortment from both sides of the struggle.
