San Diego Comic Con 2003
July 17-20 2003
San Diego, CA

This year Sabertooth Games headed to the San Diego Comic Con to take part in one of the United States largest popular arts gatherings. Combat Carl (CC) and I arrived in San Diego the morning of the July 16th and headed right from the airport to the convention center to start the process of setting up the Sabertooth booth.

This year we where part of The Lord of the RingsTM Pavilion, which was home to New Line Cinema and all The Lord of the RingsTM licensees. Carl and I where really excited when entering the exhibitors hall and seeing the Sabertooth Games logo on a 20 foot banner hanging down from the hall ceiling. With the booth completed Combat Carl I prepared ourselves for the first public showing of the Tradable Miniatures Game.

At 5:30 PM the doors opened for the Pre Registration Preview Night and we started running demos until the hall closed at 8:30. While it was only three hours, it gave us time to become comfortable with taking con goers through a 15-minute demo of The Lord of the RingsTM TMG. When the hall closed Combat Carl and I both had a sigh of relief and decided that we where going to be in for a very exhausting convention.

The next four days seemed to blur together into one mass of running demos, answering questions, and lots of caffeine. In the end though the demos went really well and costumer response was beyond our expectations. We knew we had a quality product when a con attendee stopped, took a good look at our display cabinet, and then said, "I wish I could paint minis that looked this good."

Carl and I weren’t without help though. Josh DeVore, a local scout, was kind enough to lend us a hand over the weekend. He really made a difference in giving Carl and me some time to rest our tired voices and feet. It even gave me some time to run over and have our own Frying Pan Sam figure approved by Sean Astin. We also cannot forget to mention Flinch, from theonering.net, who went out of his way to bring attendees to our booth for a demo.

Comic Con really was an amazing convention and huge success for Sabertooth Games and TMG.
