The Forces of Evil win the opening game roll off and choose the board side. The decision to choose board side was largely due to the proximity of a good size hill. The Orc Overseer had faced Gondorian Rangers before and knew that allowing archers to control that hill could spell disaster.

Turn 1

The forces of evil Charge! The Berserkers advance toward Legolas and his contingent of Gondorian Rangers. The rest of the evil force advances toward Boromir. The sight of Frodo is a tempting target, but Boromir and his bodyguards represent a dangerous force. I figure that I can flank to the left, kill those pesky archers and crush half of his force before Frodo can make it off the board.

The force led by Boromir advances up the left, positioning themselves between the main evil force and Frodo. Legolas lets lose with Arrow Flurry and kills one of the advancing Uruk-hai Berserkers. It is clear that Frodo is going to try to make a run up the side of the board.

Turn 2

The forces of evil continue their advance, putting them nearly within striking distance. The Nazgul position is keeping his eye on Frodo, looking for an opportunity to use Magical Force to pull him within arms reach.

Again Legolas proves to be amazing, first by using shot caller to give each of the Gondorian Rangers an additional shot. Then, by using Arrow Flurry more Berserkers feel the sting of arrows. Boromir and his troops close the angle between the main enemy force and Frodo.

Turn 3

The Nazgul uses Magical Force to pull an enemy Guard of the Fountain Court into the open. The Uruk-hai Berserkers and the Orc Overseer finally close the distance and surround Legolas and the Rangers. A few Orcs are positioned so that Boromir will be unable to reach the main fray this turn.

Outflanked and outnumbered, Legolas disengages and moves into a moves advantageous position. The Berzerkers take their break away attacks but fail to bring down the hero. One of the Rangers, seeing Legolas' example pulls the same move and escapes with his life. This move effectively brakes up the Berserkers positioning and turned the oncoming slaughter into a close fight. Casualties are still low on both sides after combat resolution.

Turn 4

The forces of Evil start the turn knowing that Frodo is getting dangerously close to the end of the board. The Nazgul is positioned so that in the following strategy phase it can use Magical Force to postpone Frodo an additional turn. Hopefully it will not come to that. If just 4 more enemy models are killed the forces of evil will have reduced the opponent's army by half and the day will have been won.

The Force of Good acts first and move into battle positions. It looks like they are looking to try to rout half the evil force this turn as well. Frodo moves ever closer to the edge of the board. It is apparent that the game will end soon, one way or another.

The Force of Evil moves second and tries to mimic Legolas' disengagement trick from earlier. However, it proves that disengaging can be extremely dangerous, as both models engaged by Legolas die when they attempt to leave. However, the combat goes extremely well for the evil side. The turn ends with over half the good side dead. Victory goes to the Forces of Evil!

Summary

Legolas was truly the MVP for the good side. Perhaps if Boromir was a able to get into the main action earlier, things would have ended differently. As for the evil side, those Berserkers were amazing. When they get in the fray they can dish out some serious damage.
