At the 11th century Freusburg (near Siegen) 33 generals tried to win the battle for the domination over Middle-Earth. 14 of their armies fought for the Light and 19 for the Dark Lord with 1000 points each.
While the armies of the West mostly consisted of archers who protected Frodo, the armies of the Dark Lord were focused on raw power for the melee combat. No Trolls were seen on the battlefield and only few armies that consisted of archers from the Dark Lord or melee combat for the armies of the West. But in the end it were two of those rare armies that fought in the final battle. Those generals were Björn Scheyer with a melee combat army led by Frodo (PR18), Eowyn (PR29) and Haldir (FE75), and the up to then unbeaten Winfried Sommerfeld with his deadly Uruk-Hai archers, led by two Ringwraith (BS45 + BS51) and a Moria Goblin Chief (FE105).
The final battle ended brutal and quick with a victory for the Dark Lord's army. The Free People had to bow to the power of the Dark Lord and Winfried Sommerfeld won the German National Championship 2004. Many gratulations to both him and the Vize Champion Björn Scheyer.
Something that has to be mentioned was the very relaxed and fair atmospere. Rule questions were very few and there were many jokes and fun at all tables. Even so all were tired after 6 games but also satisfied, because there were prizes enough for everyone (including a lot of Promos). Many Thanks to Barbara Koch for her support, too.
A big thank you goes to the sponsors for the Charity raffle. Sabertooth Games, the Game Magazine KARTEFAKT, and Universal Cards sponsored a lot of The Lord of the RingsTM TMG products like promos, Sauron, Cave Troll, mini-abos for the KARTEFAKT and FE-boosters. The raffle and a following auction yielded the sum of 287 Euro ($ 336). This money goes to the Childrens Cancer Foundation. All in all charity raffles at the convention yielded an awesome sum of 680 Euro ($ 796) for the Childrens Cancer Foundation.
Overall it was a perfect weekend with a perfect championship. Hopefully the next one will be great also.
